The Johnny Foundation would like to thank all those who
supported the 7th annual Johnny Leathers, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament
held on May 22, 2010.
We were blessed to have 64 golfers, 12 volunteers,
breakfast provided by Chick-fil-a of Canton, pre-game entertainment
Winter Taylor (bagpiper), Rocky Shipes (professional golf entertainer),
silent auction by Heritage Golf Shots, photography by Michael Beck, and
a great day on the Woodmont Golf & Country Club course. (check out the
tournament pictures on Michael’s website

We had fewer players this year and are so thankful that God was able to
bring more out of our less as we raised $18,000 compared to last year’s
$12,000. This year’s funds will benefit people in our local area as we
will be contributing to the American Foundation of Suicide
Prevention-Atlanta Chapter which will be used to help sponsor the Out of
the Darkness Walk being held in October in Atlanta, establish an online
screening program with Emory University for their graduate students, a
project at Kennesaw State University and continue funding the existing
online screening program at Agnes Scott College which has helped to
identify 10 at risk students already this year. These online screening
projects help to identify and encourage students who might be struggling
with depression to know how to get help when they have nowhere else to
turn as suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in ages 15-24. Your
contribution is what makes this all possible.
We will also continue to fund the Johnny Leathers Jr. Memorial Fund
established with Dr. Brenda Wagner in Roswell, GA to help fund
counseling for anyone suffering with depression but not able to pay for
sessions. We hope to be able to establish other memorial funds in
neighboring areas of Atlanta soon.
We may never know how many lives will be touched because of your
generosity and we are blessed to have your support. Please continue to
keep us in your prayers as we strive to shine God’s light by providing
help and hope to those who struggle with an illness that makes them
believe they will live the worst day of their life every day of their
life.
With God's love,
The Leathers Family
